To drive the start-up of the business we plan to marketing heavily using promotions and a penetration price strategy. Since we think that consumers do not want to spend too much on food and having an idea of the average cost from our competitors.
Some of our promotion ideas are:
-Special prices on food during the grand opening time period
-The 100th customer will receive a free Angel game ticket
-Drawings to receive prices and discounts
Having a relative low cost to the consumers we want to earn the first impression of a value that we can deliver to our customers.
Our placing of the business would be preferably one block from the stadium, and we estimate our competitors within 2-3 miles radius from the Angel Stadium. The business would be between the 5 freeway and the Stadium on State College Bvld. It would be the most optimal place since the main entrance to the Stadium is on State College Blvd. we want to place the convenience of our business so our customers can turn right in, eat then drive right out to the Stadium which is next door.

Angels Senior Director of Corporate Sponsorships replied to us and stated the following:
"Our advertising rates range anywhere from $5,000 to several million dollars depending on assets and type of deal we would do."

He couldn't get into specific because there aren't any way to describe it.
At least we got a picture of the cost to advertise with the Angels.
We are not sure if this is simply to have Angels players be part of a advertising campaign or it is having our business advertised at the Angels stadium.

As for determining our projected sales, we have contacted
several restaurants and sports bars/Pubs in the area to determine average daily
customers. So far, we have gotten a response from two: In-N-Out and Ruby’s
Diner. Both restaurants have similar menu’s we plan to use, and we like the
atmosphere they create.
What we learned was that both restaurants plan to serve at
least 75%-85% of their maximum seating capacity in transactions. The average
amount spent per transaction was about $26 for a group of four. This
represented dine in only and not drive thru sales. In the case of In-N-Out, it
did not include merchandise transactions.
We will update this post to reflect the participation of the
other restaurants.

The following link is for the costs for advertising with the Daily Titan Newspaper.

If the above link doesn't work then try going to this link and then download the Media Kit:

They have various costs that tailor to all budget. Specifically speaking, the more it takes up a page the more you have to pay.

So far, we have contacted the Angels regarding opportunities and prices for the different advertising venues they have at the stadium. Still waiting for a reply, in the mean time we also thought of having our business known through the Daily Titan newspaper and doing mail leaflets through USPS.
We will have different deals that will encourage customers to stop by, such as sweepstakes, specials, discounts, free stuff on game day, are some of the things that we have thought up so far.
Since our business is an Angels Baseball team oriented, we would want our store to be within 5 miles from the stadium. Preferably, close by if possible.

Last night after class our group got together and discussed the types of products we would like to sell at our restaurant and the type of food that would be sold. We would like to keep it pretty simple and sell Angels baseball hats, jerseys, and other types of memorabilia. For the restaurant aspect, we want to sell very typical American food. We want it to feel like an old fashioned type of American diner that sells hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, and milkshakes. It will have a very similar to feel to Ruby's but with a merchandise area in the restaurant as well. This location will cater to all the Angels fans to come hang out and eat before and after the game.

Over the weekend we would analyze the market situation
that we are in. We do know that there are many coffee shops and restaurants around
the area of Angels Stadium but our store offer many Angels’ unique and genuine
products which would make a significant difference among others. In the
meantime, we would also plan to make our marketing plans and strategies such as
advertising campaigns and promotions to attract our new customers and to build
long-term relationships with them.

Looks like a survey is not feasible considering our time constrain. We had to look for an alternative method of gauging the prospect of our store. Most likely we be looking at segmenting the market by demographic within Anaheim and within Orange County using the government's census. At this time we do not have a method to actually get a specific data on the number of Angels fans.
This might have to be a hypothetical statistic based on the number of families and maybe on the Angels' official website, hoping to find a statistics of people going to games and from there estimate the percentage of Angels fans based on home games.
We might be able to find the number of people watching the games at home, but this statistic will not help us in terms of stopping by our restaurant because...they do not get out of their homes.
Thus far... :)

Starting...
The name is The Outfield this is to reference the theme of the business to cater to Angels fans but other customers are welcome as well. Our business goal is to provide a family oriented atmosphere for before and after games. Not only are we providing American food but Angels merchandises and game tickets. We believe that there aren't that many business around the Anaheim Angels area that have our kinda business model, so we believe it is an addition to make fans enjoy game days and bring that family time together opportunity!
Ok, so one of our first steps would be to conduct a survey of the business to be marketed in Anaheim. This survey will ask how likely will a consumer spend their time at our business and through this we do hope that at least or not all Angel fans will do a stop before and after games...that is just one of the idea we have for now so we'll keep you posted.
